This weekend course will help you empower your relationships with partners and children, and give you tools and techniques to successfully incorporate your spiritual practice within your daily life.
We will learn about the four stages of life as described in the Vedas and focus on the householder or Grihastha stage. "Grihastha" literally means "being in and occupied with home, family" or "householder". It refers to the second phase of an individual's life in a four age-based stages of life . It embodies a married life, with the duties of maintaining a home, raising a family, educating one's children, and leading a family-centred and a dharmic social life.
We will look at some of the challenges and choices that are part of the householder life and how to apply yogic principles in a practical way. The goals of the course include:
- Nurturing your spiritual side, while maintaining a healthy and happy relationship with family and friends.
- Cultivating and healing your relationships using yoga philosophy
- Creating a space for your yoga practice without compromising on familial duties
6-8am Satsang: Guided silent meditation practice, chanting and lecture
8-10am Yoga Class
11am Karma Yoga
1-4pm Free Time and Nature walks
4-6pm Yoga Class
7-8pm Free Time
8-10pm Satsang: meditation, chanting and lecture
Arrival and Departure
Arrival: The course will begin on the first Date with Ashram Orientation at 7pm followed by Satsang at 8pm.
Departure: The course will finish on the final date at 1pm or after the final workshop.
We encourage you to arrive by 4pm on the first Day making the most out of the afternoon by joining us for the Asana class and dinner. You are always welcome and encouraged to extend your stay to any length before or after the course. Please indicate your desired arrival and departure dates on your registration form.
What to Bring
Other: slip on shoes, loose comfortable clothing, writing materials, meditation shawl or blanket, yoga mat, flashlight. All books and materials are available in our boutique.

Chandra and Tara Durga Devi
Chandra and Tara Durga Devi (Howard and Tara Crane) have been married for 47 years. They have been involved with the ashram since 1974 and started their yoga life with Swami Vishnudevananda. Tara Durga Devi completed her teacher training in 1976 and advanced training in 1978 with Swami Vishnu. As householders, they have raised 2 children and owned a CPA firm and a yoga studio in Stockton, CA while practicing the yoga principles. Chandra is a CPA and helps the ashram with accounting services. Tara have been a long-time supporter and regularly volunteers her time by teaching courses on Positive Thinking, Meditation, the Art of Affirmations course etc. Tara is also the counselor for helping students with their Teacher's Training Course.
