Description

Vedic Astrology or Jyotisha is the science of light.  At the Sivananda Ashram Yoga Farm we offer many courses from beginners to advanced.  We have a yearly Jyotish conference which started in 1999 with some of the most famous names in Jyotish coming to the ashram for the event.  We also offer twice yearly Jyotish beginners courses. Some of the topics that we discuss in our courses are:

  • Differences between Vedic and Western astrology
  • Karma and reincarnation
  • Destiny and free will
  • The 9 planets, the 12 houses, the 12 signs, the effects of planetary aspects
  • The main yogas in the chart
  • The constellations of the moon called Nakshatras
  • The principles of chart interpretation - individual karma, samskaras and mental tendencies, personal duty, mission, work and spiritual path, individual health, potential diseases, weak areas, difficult periods, and ayurvedic constitution
  • Practical examples of chart analysis
  • The yogic remedial measures - counteracting the negative effects and strengthen the favorable effect of the planets

Faculty

Komilla Sutton is the co-founder and Chair of the british Association for Vedic Astrology. She is an internationally renowned consultant, teacher and lecturer. Indian born, Komilla Sutton is one of the pioneers in making tis subject more accesible for the Western readers. She is the author of 'Vedic Love Signs', 'Vedic Astrology', 'The Essentials of Vedic Astrology', 'Lunar nodes - Crisis and Redemption' and "Indian Astrology".

William R. (Bill) Levacy holds a BA in Literature, a Master’s in the Science of Creative Intelligence, a Master’s in Education, and a Ph.D. in Education with a specialization in Human Performance Improvement (HPI). Bill is the author of, “Beneath a Vedic Sky,” “Beneath a Vedic Sun,” and “Vedic Astrology Simply Put.” He is a recipient of the 2011 “Jyotish Medha Pragya” award by the Indian Council of Astrological Sciences (ICAS) in New Delhi, India and the 2012 “Jyotisha Manasagara” award from the Raman and Rajeshwari Research Foundation, in Bangalore, India. Bill is President of the American College of Vedic Astrology™ (ACVA), and the ACVAOnline ™ educational program at www.acvaonline.org. Krishna Darshan, who hails from Uruguay, is a direct disciple of Swami Vishnudevananda and has been a yoga and meditation teacher for more than 28 years in South America, Europe and USA. He has been the main Hatha Yoga instructor in numerous International Yoga Teachers Training Courses and has an in depth knowledge of the practice of Hatha and Raja Yoga and Vedanta philosophy. He is an able yogic sadhana counselor and he is a Jyotish teacher and consultant, certified by the American College of Vedic Astrology (ACVA). (levels 1 and 2) and also by the council of Vedic astrology (CVA) "Jyotish Visharada" and "Jyotish Kovid"

Andrew Foss PhD, is the President and co-founder of the British Association of Vedic Astrology. He has a BA and MA from Oxford University in Physics and an MSc and PhD in Computing Science. He is the author of the leading software for Vedic Astrology, Shri Jyoti Star and the editor of the journal Gochara. He is a Jaimini Scholar and has lectured internationally on Jyotish, Ayurveda and computing and has published extensively in peer-reviewed journals. Web site: www.vedicsoftware.com

Sam Geppi (Sadasiva) is the author of "The Ascendant-108 Planets of Vedic Astrology". He was hired by Dattatreya Shiva Baba to teach the first Astroved University of Vedic Sciences Vedic Astrology Certification Program in 2010. He founded The American Academy of Vedic Art and Science in 2011, and is currently teaching the first Vedic Astrology Certification program through the Academy to more than 60 students. William Surface is a professional astrologer certified through the Council of Vedic Astrology and is the recipient of the CVA Jyotish Visharada. He has completed Komilla Sutton's 3 year Jyotish Course and is also a member of the British Association of Vedic Astrology (BAVA). He also holds a B.A in Humanities from the University of Chicago. Born and raised in New York City and now residing in Portland, Oregon William has been a student of yoga since 2001. The teachings of yoga have had a profound effect on my life, and eventually brought me to the study of Vedic Astrology.

Keiko Ito, from Tokyo, started studying western astrology from a young age, and started with Jyotish in 2003 with her teacher, Komilla Sutton. Traveling regularly to India with Komilla to deepen her Vedic knowledge, Keiko was part of the faculty at the "Fresh Talents of Vedic Astrology" in India (2013, 2014), at the “BAVA Conference” in London (2013, 2015) and at the "Annual Vedic Astrology Conference" at Yoga Farm in California (2013). She regularly holds Jyotish-themed workshops at Sivananda Yoga Tokyo Center, is a full-time translator in four languages and a part-time Vedic astrologer with clients in Japan and Europe.

Bill Sinclair began studying Vedic Astrology in 2002. He began his studies under Ronnie Dreyer and continues his studies under the guidance of Komilla Sutton.  Bill holds a Level 1 Jyotish Certification from the American College of Vedic Astrology.  He also holds the Jyotish Shastri Diploma from Komilla Academy of Vedic Studies in Chandigarh, India.
