Yoga Health Education Weekend – Yoga for Trauma
with Swami Sivasankariananda
March 15 - 17, 2019
Description
The tools of holistic yoga support the road to recovery for trauma-affected persons. Pranayama brings in more prana, energizing the body and mind. Get in touch with deeper emotions held in the diaphragm and stomach. Open the sinuses, which stabilizes mood and regulates the balance between the sympathetic and parasympathetic nervous systems. Pay attention to positive body sensations. Take time to practice deep relaxation.
Trauma can be emotional or physical, from loss or neglect. It can be mild or severe. It can show up in many ways, such as flashbacks and hyper-vigilance. Our threat-perception system is enhanced; we might see danger where others see something manageable. Our ability to filter information becomes confused; irrelevant thoughts can interfere with the here and now. Be guided toward clarity and a healthy balance of self-awareness and detachment.
Ground rules, content and goals of the weekend will be laid out clearly. The ashram yoga teachers and staff are compassionate and dedicated. The ashram grounds are beautiful, healing and safe. The environment is ideal where you will have choices of levels of practice. Confidentiality will be maintained. Free health assessment by a Yoga Health Educator
