The core of the ashram's teachings is carried through the senior swamis (monastics) and resident Yogis and teachers as well as a host of invited teachers, performers and lecturers. The resident teachers and swamis lead an integral yogic and dedicated life, full time without remuneration, with the sole goal to improve themselves by the practice of Yoga and to share with others the teachings. Invited teachers come for a specific program to share their teachings.
Swamis and Main Teachers:
Swami Sitaramananda is a monastic from Saraswati order from Sankaracharya-Sivananda lineage, expert teacher in Yoga Philosophy and Yogic methods from the 4 classical paths of Yoga for more than 30 years. She is senior disciple of Himalayan Yoga Master Swami Vishnudevananda, who is a direct disciple of H.H.Sivananda. She was nominated acharya by him in 1989. and is presently acharya of US West coast Centers and Ashrams as well as Asia, specially Vietnam where she hailed from. She met with Swami Vishnudevananda in Val Morin, Canada at the Sivananda Ashram Yoga Camp in 1981 and has served devotedly her Guru and her Guru's organization - the International Sivananda Yoga Vedanta Centers - since then. She is the director of Sivananda Ashram Yoga Farm, Grass Valley, CA for 20 years. Swami Sitaramananda has taught many international Teachers Training courses in California, Vietnam, Taiwan and India and is also teaching regularly at Sivananda Ashram Yoga Retreat, Nassau Bahamas. She is the author of " Positive Thinking Manual", "Essentials Yoga Practice and Philosophy" (translated in chinese, japanese and vietnamese) and "Swamiji Said, a collection of teachings by Swami Vishnudevananda in His Own Words" as well as 2 poem books. She is responsible of the translation in Vietnamese of the "Completed Illustrated Book of Yoga" of Swami Vishnudevananda. Swami Jnaneswariananda joined the Sivananda Yoga Vedanta Centers in 1995 and has been director of centers and ashrams in Canada and Italy. She teaches Hatha Yoga, Meditation, Anatomy, and Vedanta at Teacher's Training Courses in North America, Italy and India. Swami Jnaneswariananda took vows of Sannyas in 2001. She is currently a senior teacher at the Yoga Farm in Grass Valley.
Swami Pranavananda took the vow of Sannyas in 1995. He is a gifted teacher who is the main hatha yoga teacher at the ashram and teaches the Anatomy and Physiology section of our Teachers Training Course. He co-directed the San Francisco Center for five years. A talented musician, he enjoys leading kirtan and bhajan chanting sessions during satsang. He now is serving as staff in Hochiminh center, Vietnam.
Swami Narayanananda was born in London, England. He is now based at the Sivananda Ashram in Grass Valley, California and teaches internationally. He has been involved full time in Yoga since 1996 and took Teachers training in India in 1999. He is a disciple of Swami Vishnu-devananda and has been a senior teacher of the International Sivananda Yoga Vedanta organization for 17 years, teaching in many countries including India and Vietnam and most recently teaching in our Sivananda Yoga Center, in Chengdu, China. He has been director and teacher in the Sivananda Centers Chicago and New York City. and assistant director of the Sivananda ashram, in Grass Valley, California. Swami Narayanananda teaches Yoga and Meditation internationally and has trained teachers in Yoga Teacher Training and Advanced Yoga Teacher Training courses in the USA, in India, Taiwan and Vietnam.
Swami Dharmananda is one of the main teachers of Hatha Yoga and Meditation at the Ashram. He took sannyas vows in 2013 and is assistant director of the Sivananda Ashram Yoga Farm. Swami Dharmananda is keenly interested in yoga psychology and philosophy, presenting the classical teaching in a practical and accessible way to people of all faiths and backgrounds.
Swami Adiparashaktiananda is a dedicated Sadhak and Hatha Yoga practitionner and teacher graduated from Sivananda Teachers Training course in 2009 at the Sivananda Ashram Yoga Farm in Grass Valley, CA and has remained full-time staff and teacher for the International Sivananda Yoga Vedanta Center since then. He took the first monastic vow from Sivananda lineage in 2011. He served in Los Angles Yoga Center in 2010 and in San Francisco Yoga Center in 2011. Starting 2012, he travelled yearly to Vietnam as Swami Sitaramananda's personal assistant and taught the Hatha Yoga classes for the Yoga Teachers Training Course. Swami Adiparashaktiananda also assists Durga Leela in teaching the 12-day Ayurveda and Yoga Wellness Certification course integrating Ayurvedic principles onto the yoga mat. He was also part of the teaching team for the Sivananda Sadhana Intensive 10-day course, which emphasizes the daily practice of pranayama. Swami Adiparashaktiananda resides at the Sivananda Ashram Yoga Farm in Grass Valley, which is a spiritual community on 80 acres of land, and has helped assisting the Permaculture Design course and overseeing the blossoming vegetable garden.
Swami Sivasankariananda, C-IAYT, is a long-time yogini from the Sivananda lineage. She was a karma yogi in Los Angeles center for more than 20 years. She is now director of the San Francisco Sivananda Yoga center, where she teaches beginner courses, positive thinking, meditation, kirtan, and bhakti courses. She has assisted several Yoga Teacher Training Courses at the Sivananda Ashram Yoga Farm, and one at the Dalat ashram in Vietnam. She specializes in working with students living with chronic pain.
Hamsa Chaitanya joined the staff of the Sivananda Ashram Yoga Farm in 2014 and was initiated into Brahmacarya in December 2014. Originally from Taiwan, Hamsa Ch. is very actively involved with the expansion of Sivananda Yoga in Taiwan and translation of teaching materials into Chinese. She is one of the main teachers of yoga life and spirituality at the Yoga Farm and the coordinator of activities of the ashram. She took her TTC and ATTC in Tawain in 2010. Now she is the director of the Sivananda center in Los Angeles.
