Meditation and Self-Study Certification Course

For ten days, students will immerse themselves in learning what meditation is, why meditate, how to meditate, and the obstacles they will encounter, eventually building a sustainable and balanced meditation practice that is compatible with their life.

This course is ideal for sincere aspirants, yoga teachers, therapists, and health professionals. The course offers an opportunity for you to know your mind under the guidance of an experienced meditation teacher. You will learn the basic techniques of meditation according to the four classical paths of Yoga.

Raja Yoga Sutras

Raja Yoga is the royal Yoga path of mind control and meditation. It is a natural culmination of the Hatha Yoga practice which is considered to be a step to Raja Yoga. The purpose of Raja Yoga is to bring the mind to calmness so one can realize the Self, the peace and Bliss within. Course study centers on the Raja Yoga Sutras of Patanjali. Students learn to apply the classical teachings in the context of daily life, gain understanding of the workings of the mind, and learn techniques and practices to gain mastery over the mind:

 

  • How to use the eightfold path to systematically identify the causes of suffering in people and design methods and techniques to alleviate suffering
  • How to help people increase vital energy (prana) and become stronger physically, mentally and emotionally
  • Learn methods to help people reduce distractions and increase concentration and peace of mind
  • How to help people to become more positive through positive thinking techniques

Vedanta and Silence

This 10-day advanced course features vedantic meditation, the practice of group scriptural study, personal self-inquiry and the practice of outer and inner silence.  There ispersonal coaching and guidance by a Swami in the study of Viveka Chudamani, the “Crest Jewel of Discrimination” by Sankaracharya. Enter into the peaceful silence of the inner Self through the practice of external silence. Come away with deeper self-knowledge and a sense of clarity and peace.

Swami Vashistananda

Swami Vashistananda comes from the Namboodri lineage in Southern India, Kerala and was the personal priest of Swami Vishnudevananda. Swamiji has been a long-time teacher of bhakti and vedanta in the Sivananda organization ever since. He has been at the Yoga farm since October 2014 and does ceremonies at all the ashram temples and shrines.  Swamiji teaches with much inspiration and humor.

Swami Sitaramananda

Swami Sitaramananda is a senior disciple of Swami Vishnudevananda, who is a direct disciple of Swami Sivananda and was nominated acharya, senior teacher, by him in 1989.  She is presently acharya of US West coast Centers and Ashrams as well as Asia, especially Vietnam, China, and Japan. Swamiji has been director of the Sivananda Ashram Yoga Farm for more than 20 years and has taught many international Teachers Training Courses in California, Vietnam, China, Taiwan and India and is teaching regularly at Sivananda Yoga Retreat in Nassau Bahamas. Swami Jnaneswariananda

Swami Jnaneswariananda joined the Sivananda Yoga Vedanta Centers in 1995 and has been director of centers and ashrams in Canada and Italy. She teaches Hatha Yoga, Meditation, Anatomy, and Vedanta at Teacher Training Courses in North America, Italy and India. Swami Jnaneswariananda took vows of Sannyas in 2001. She is currently a senior teacher at the Yoga Farm in Grass Valley. She teaches with great enthusiasm and humor. Swami Jnaneswariananda has a Phd in Biomedical Engineering and is an excellent teacher of anatomy and physiology and yoga philosophy. Swami Dharmananda

Swami Dharmananda is assistant director of the Yoga Farm for many years and is in charge of the karma yoga program.  He is a faculty of the Sivananda Institute of Health (SIHY) and is one of the main teachers of Yoga Philosophy and Meditation at the Ashram. He took sannyas vows in 2013 and is keenly interested in yoga psychology and philosophy, presenting the classical teaching in a practical and accessible way to people of all faiths and backgrounds.
