Description
This course is offered by a Professional musician and is aimed to give students an introduction into the theory and practice of classical instruments of Hindusthani Music: Sitar, Tabla, and Vocal.
Students will be given knowledge of Raga Sangeet and context surrendering this sacred music. The course will be taught in traditional style which has special rules regarding the musical instruments, practice, fellow students and Guru.
A must for the students pursuing music as source of Naad Yoga.
Learning Classical Music of India on Sitar / Tabla / Vocal
Within the arts tradition of Music of North India, this unique and innovative program is intended to offer awareness, creativity and experience healing process in the attendees at all levels. It will enhance greater understanding of the rare and sacred Classical music of Ancient India in pristine purity. Each class is a combination of musicianship and performance skills, good understanding of the theory of the Raga and Tala system. Students will learn in group and individual studies.
Sitar and Tabla Students are required to bring their own instruments
VOCAL:
• History and Theory of Music of India
• Comparison between Western and Indian Music System
• Learn to understand the Swaras (musical notes) and major Thatas (Scales)
• Learn to sing exercises with different Thaats (scale patterns)
• Learn one Raga with Bandish (rhythmic composition)
and Tanes (improvisations)
• Learn to recite Sanskrit Hymns and Kirtans
SITAR:
• History and Theory of Sitar and understanding of the Notation system
• Comparison between Western and Indian Music System
• Learn to play the Sitar
• Learn to understand the tuning of the instrument and its parts such as strings, frets, etc.
• Learn the principles of Tala (rhythm)
• Understand the Vocabulary of Sitar
• Learn to play the exercises with different Thatas (scales)
• Learn one Raga with Gats (rhythmic compositions)
and Alankaras (improvisations)
TABLA:
• History and Theory of Tabla
• Learning the structure of Dayan (right) and Bayan (left) Tabla
• Learn to play the Tabla
• Learn to recite different Bols (specific sound)
• Learn one Tala (rhythm) with Kaidas (Variations)
