Mind & Meditation
Meditation Journey
This section includes three lessons on the Mind and Meditation. Each lesson includes a one-hour video, accompanying article and a short essay style quiz at the end.
Lesson 1: Prana, thought, and 5 senses
Prana is life force, vital energy that allows you to be alive and function in this world. When prana departs from the physical body, death comes. Prana is necessary to live and to progress in life. It is prana that you are attracted to in a person. Everything is alive at different degrees. There is more prana in a real flower compared to a plastic flower. There is more prana in live food fresh food than in canned food or old food. It is prana that makes you feel enjoyment and feel fulfilled. Your quality of life improves through improving the quality of prana.
Lesson 2: Overcoming obstacles on your yoga journey!
When the mind is distracted, it will bounce randomly from thought to thought and object to object. You will feel restless. Most of the time our minds are like this. The yogic advice in order to bring back focus and peace is to practice Yoga asanas but also to focus on a mantra when you will coach the thoughts to come back to the mantra from wherever they stray. As we repeat the mantra, we create a new groove for the mind, and as we repeat it, gradually the mind becomes strong and more focused. Through this singularity of focus, we build the muscles of the mind until it becomes strong and concentrated.
Lesson 3: 5 Kleshas or 5 Causes of Suffering
The 5 causes of suffering come from Ignorance, Egoism, attraction, aversion, and fear of death. The only solution to this is Yoga which alleviates our suffering. Sometimes we think “I am the only one suffering” – but in fact everyone is suffering. The ancient sages knew this reason of why we suffer and give us specific yoga practices to help.
As you watch the lessons, it is recommended that you sit on the floor in a cross legged position and have a notebook and a pen with you so you can take notes and reflect on the teachings.
