The cost of healthcare is extremely expensive, diagnosis is often incorrect, insurance companies often don’t cover the costs, healthcare professionals are overworked, pharmaceutical and medicine companies are out for profit and nobody is taking personal care of patients. So the Sivananda movement would like to give people back full control over their own health.
Self-healing involves understanding how the body works, how the mind is very important for our physical and mental health, how the emotions play a large role, and how by connecting to our spirit through quieting the mind and by reconnecting back to an energy, a Divine energy that can help heal us on the physical, mental and emotional levels.

Self–healing is not difficult per se but by allowing nature and the wisdom of the body to come through, you naturally heal by giving the body and mind the time and space to heal itself. Through yoga and meditation we learn to relax our nervous system, let go of stress in the mind, and become aware of our mental state and energy level. By keeping our mind in a balanced state and allowing the energy to flow in the subtle body without blockage the body and the divine will heal itself.
What is needed for self–healing is not a lot of discipline or hard work, but taking time for yourself through a self–healing yoga vacation where you spend time in nature in a community of like-minded individuals, eating local organic foods which are easy to digest and assimilate. By spending one to two weeks in such an environment, self–healing will start to take place naturally on very deep levels.
An ashram or a spiritual community might be foreign for many people but it has ancient roots, and indigenous wisdom that comes from our elders about how to connect back to our true self. Classical yoga comes from ancient India and is not religious per se but is very spiritual in that there are altars, shrines, and temples which have forms of One supreme Healer which help us to remember a true purpose in this life.
