Swami Sitaramananda is a senior disciple of Swami Vishnudevananda, who is a direct disciple of Swami Sivananda. She was nominated acharya by him in 1989 and is presently acharya of US West coast Centers and Ashrams as well as Asia, especially Vietnam and China. Dr. David Frawley (Vamadeva Shastri) is the recent recipient of the Padma Bhushan award in India. The second highest award anyone can receive. Anuradha Prabhashankar is an accomplished Bharatanatyam dancer from the Bay area. She learned her art form in India at a very young age. Now a mother of two, she has been performing at the Sivananda Ashram Yoga Farm for many years. Bharatanatyam style of dance is rigorous in its foot work, facial expressions, eye movement and mudras (hand gestures). Edwin F. Bryant (Adwaita das)
Edwin Bryant received his Ph.D in Indic languages and Cultures from Columbia University. Christopher Key Chapple is the Navin and Pratima Doshi Professor of Indic and Comparative Theology at Loyola Marymount University. Dr. Chapple received his undergraduate degree in Comparative Literature and Religious Studies from the State University of New York at Stony Brook and his doctorate in the History of Religions through the Theology Department at Fordham University. Dr. Luskin holds a Ph.D. in Counseling and Health Psychology from Stanford University. Acharya Mangalananda is a direct disciple of the great modern woman Saint, Anandamayi Ma. When Swami Sivananda met with Ma he called her "The finest flower the soil of India has ever produced". Mangalananda went to India for the first time in 1973 when he was just 19 years old and spent the course of two years traveling with Ma and eventually receiving Initiation from her. He has lived in her ashrams and in association and under the guidance of some of her major disciples ever since. Lama Palden Drolma
Lama Palden Drolma is the founder and spiritual director of Sukhasiddhi Foundation. She completed the traditional Tibetan Buddhist three-year retreat in the Shangpa and Karma Kagyu lineages under Kalu Rinpoche’s guidance in 1985. In 1986 she became one of the first Western women to be authorized as a lama in the Vajrayana tradition. In addition to Kalu Rinpoche, she has studied with many of the great Tibetan masters from all lineages. Lama Palden is also a licensed psychotherapist with a long standing interest in the liberation of ego issues and the integration of spirit, mind, psyche and body. Swami Kashi Muktananda
Swami Kashi Muktananda was born in Israel in 1972 and was brought up in a very normal Israeli family. He first visited the Sivananda Yoga Center in Tel-Aviv at 25 and took a Yoga class. This marked the turning point in his life; from there Swami Ji started practicing Yoga very regularly and began studying the philosophy of Yoga with the spiritual aspect of yogic life. After completing Yoga Teacher Training he joined staff at the Sivananda Ashram Yoga Retreat, in Nassau, Bahamas, serving there for many years. He spent three years in India under the tutelage of Swami Chaitanyananda, one of Swami Sivananda's close disciples, and continues to spend several months per year in India. Sat Siri Khalsa is a Jyotish practitioner as well as a teacher of Kundalini Yoga. Ms. Merriam began working in the inter-faith movement in the late 1990s when she served as Vice Chair of the Millennium World Peace Summit of Religious and Spiritual Leaders held at the United Nation in New York in the year 2000. She subsequently convened a meeting of women religious and spiritual leaders at the Palais des Nations in Geneva and from that gathering founded the Global Peace Initiative of Women (GPIW) in 2002, an organization chaired by a multi-faith group of women spiritual leaders. In 2008, Ms. Merriam was one of the founding members of the Contemplative Alliance, which later became a program of GPIW. The purpose of the Alliance is to bring together meditation teachers and practitioners in a collective effort to uplift and transform society, while caring for and honoring our Mother Earth.
For over 40 years, Dena Merriam has been a student of Paramahansa Yogananda and a practitioner of Kriya Yoga meditation. She is also a long time student of the great texts of the Vedic tradition. Ms. Merriam received her Master’s Degree from Columbia University and has served on the boards of the Harvard University Center for the Study of World Religions, the International Center for Religion and Diplomacy, The Interfaith Center of New York, the Manitou Foundation, The All India Movement (AIM) for Seva, Dharma Drum Mountain Buddhist Association, and Seven Pillars. In 2014 she received the Niwano Peace Prize for her interfaith peace efforts.
Nandini took the Sivananda teacher’s training course in 2013 and has been a volunteer and full-time staff since then. She started learning how to cook from her mother at the age of 11. Having been raised in a traditional Indian household, Ayurveda was embedded in in the daily lifestyle, whether it was using ayurvedic techniques for cooking, using herbal remedies for the common cold, or healing everyday aches and pains.
